Chapong vs Dokku

Dokku is a small open-source, Heroku-style platform you run on a single server and drive from the command line. Chapong gives you the same own-server idea with a dashboard, previews and a linked backend, managed for you.

Where they differ

General differences in approach, as of 2026. Dokku changes its products and plans over time, so check its own documentation for current details.

Dokku may suit you better if…

  • You want a minimal, free tool and are comfortable on the command line
  • You already have a server and like managing it
  • You want to build exactly the setup you need from plugins

Chapong may suit you better if…

  • You want a dashboard, preview URLs and rollbacks without assembling them
  • You don’t want to maintain the platform
  • You want a Supabase-compatible backend linked to your site in one click
  • You want to start free on shared hosting

Moving a project over

  1. Create a site from the same repository; check the detected framework, build command and output folder.
  2. Copy your environment variables into the site’s production, preview or shared scopes.
  3. Deploy a preview and test it before switching any traffic.
  4. Set the start command in the site settings, and move data with standard Postgres tools such as pg_dump and psql.
  5. Add your domain, point DNS at the target Chapong shows, and HTTPS is issued automatically.
